What to include when you write

Aksial Sonar has no account, so there is nothing for us to look you up by — and nothing about your network reaches us unless you send it. To make a report actionable, include your iPhone model and iOS version, which screen or probe was running, whether Local Network permission is on, and whether a Mac companion was paired. If you are comfortable, attach an exported session bundle: it is redacted by default and it is the single most useful thing you can send.

Common questions

Do I need an account?

No, and there is nothing to sign in to. Aksial Sonar has no account, no server and no cloud collector. Everything it records stays in the app on your device. That is also why we cannot recover anything for you if you delete the app — there is no copy anywhere else.

Why does it ask for Local Network permission?

Because iOS requires it before any app may look at the network you are on. Without it, device discovery returns nothing — not because your network is empty, but because the app is not allowed to look. You can grant or revoke it at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.

The Map tab is empty

Most often that is the permission above. After that, the usual causes are a network that isolates clients from each other — common on guest and hotel Wi-Fi — or devices that simply do not announce themselves. The opt-in subnet sweep in Probe › LAN crawl finds some of the quiet ones. It is off by default because it is the noisiest thing the app can do.

What does it actually send over the internet?

Four things, all measurements, none of them anything it observed on your network: latency timings to public reachability hosts, the same captive-portal check iOS makes when you join Wi-Fi, a TLS handshake for certificate expiry, and a responsiveness measurement when you tap Measure. Nothing about your devices, hostnames or traffic ever leaves your phone. The privacy policy lists each one.

Is a CVE match telling me I am vulnerable?

No, and it is worth being precise about this. Aksial Sonar compares a service banner against a CVE table bundled inside the app. It never probes the device to check whether the flaw is actually present, and it never fetches anything from the internet to do it. A match means "this banner resembles a version associated with this CVE" — it is a lead to investigate, not a finding. Each one carries a confidence value for that reason.

Does it scan the internet, or other people's networks?

No. Probes are refused against anything outside your own private address range by default, the subnet sweep refuses non-private prefixes outright, caps at 1024 hosts, and will not run on a prefix larger than that. It is a tool for the network you are on.

What is the Mac companion?

Aksial Sonar can pair with a companion running on a Mac you control, on the same network, to add a desktop-side vantage the phone cannot have — a phone sleeps, a Mac does not. Pairing is local to your network and started by you. The app is complete without it, and the companion is not yet published for download; when it is, it will be linked here.

Exports — what is in them, and what is redacted?

Stopping a diagnostic session writes a bundle: an event timeline, a readable summary, a privacy note describing exactly what was redacted, and a pre-written ISP support letter. Private addresses, MAC addresses, Wi-Fi names and local device names are redacted from the readable files before you share. You choose whether the bundle goes anywhere at all. Nothing is uploaded.

The app says my link is fast but my calls are bad

That is the app working. Throughput and responsiveness are different measurements, and a link can be quick when idle and slow to answer once something is using it. The responsiveness grade under Probe › rpm is the one that predicts calls and games.

Does it capture packets?

Not on iPhone. The app does not capture raw packets at all, and no .pcapng file is produced. Deep capture is reserved for the optional Mac companion, where it happens on your own machine.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app. Everything Aksial Sonar recorded lives on the device, so removing the app removes it. There is nothing on a server to request, because there is no server. Settings › Privacy › Apply retention now prunes older records if you want to keep the app but drop the history.
