what it is
a network instrument for the moment something changed and nobody believes you. it watches the path, inventories what is on the lan, runs the probes you would otherwise run by hand, and writes the evidence into a bundle you can hand to an isp.
the hard part
what took the longest
measuring a network honestly from inside apple's sandbox, where the useful primitives are the ones you are not allowed to have. no raw sockets, no packet capture, no promiscuous mode. every reading has to come from what a sandboxed app may legally do, and say plainly when that is not enough.

the mac companion

a phone sleeps. a mac does not.
sonar can pair with a small companion on a mac you control, on the same network. pairing is local and started by you. the app is complete without it; the companion adds the vantage a phone cannot hold.
